JOINT DYSFUNCTION

Joints necessitate specialized care to fully restore their functional capacity in our active lifestyles. A standard exercise prescription is typically inadequate for achieving optimal mobility in the shoulder, hip, or knee, particularly in cases of sprains, strains, or varying stages of osteoarthritis. We invite you to explore a thorough manual therapy approach tailored specifically for these conditions.

HEADACHES

Falls represent a significant cause of hospitalization within our society. The injuries sustained from falls can lead to long-term consequences for posture and functional mobility. Our approach emphasizes a comprehensive evaluation of posture and balance reactions, alongside addressing any mechanical issues that may impede optimal human function.

Functional Manual Therapy™ is a comprehensive treatment system that couples mechanical treatment of joints, soft tissues, and the visceral and neurovascular systems with manual neuromuscular facilitation to optimize motor control and human function. This approach is taught by the Institute of Physical Art, Inc. (IPA), established in 1978, to promote manual therapy and education for enhancing human function. The IPA offers continuing education courses, two FMT certifications, an APTA Credentialed FMT Orthopedic Residency Program, and an APTA/AAOMPT credentialed FMT Fellowship program.*

Headaches can result from a multitude of factors, such as eye strain, muscle tension, stress, and environmental conditions. We are committed to assisting you in identifying any mechanical factors that may be contributing to your headaches. Our approach is tailored to discover and address the various common causes of headaches.

PRE & POST-PARTUM CARE

Many women experience significant low back and pelvic girdle pain during and after pregnancy. It is advisable to consult your OB/GYN regarding the potential benefits of physical therapy in your recovery process. Furthermore, following delivery, it is essential to build the strength and endurance necessary to care for your newborn. Pre-existing conditions may complicate recovery, so please inquire about how we can facilitate a smoother transition as you welcome your new child.

*All physical therapists at Cornerstone Physical Therapy have completed classes provided by the IPA and Kevin Brogan achieved the FMT certification in 2010, becoming the first physical therapist in the Central Valley to do so. He is currently an associate faculty member.
